We love helping folk with quality meats to self-cater celebrations such as your wedding post-match BBQ or a special birthday with friends and family.

When you book in advance, we can help with numerous options for spit roasts such as whole lambs, whole pigs and suckling pigs. (More info below.)

Other great options to feed a big group of people include:

  • whole rolled pork shoulder roasts to go on a barbecue rotisserie or spit,
  • a rolled pork loin or two,
  • a whole ham which we make and smoke onsite using Freedom Farms NZ pork legs,
  • a whole beef ribeye or whole beef porterhouse to roast and slice,
  • or, of course, a big batch of our handcrafted sausages for a big barbecue meal.

Spit roast whole lamb

A whole lamb, bone-in, is a great option to roast on a gas-fired spit. These are available to hire from one of the local hire companies.

We purchase fresh, grass-fed, South Island-raised lambs in carcass form from a trusted supplier. These whole lambs are 18-22kg in carcass form. Allow about 450g per person of the bone-in weight. As an example, a 18kg lamb could feed 40 people and a 22kg lamb around 50 people.

As at February 2024, our whole lamb pricing is $19/kg. So a 18kg whole lamb is $342.

Please contact us at least four weeks prior to your event date to order a whole lamb and confirm any additional options you may need.

For an additional fee:

  • We can wire the bone-in lamb to the spit bar for you.
  • We can bone and roll the whole lamb, and wire this to the spit bar, making an easy to carve option.

Spit roast pork and suckling pigs

A whole spit roasted pig is a wonderful way to feed a crowd and, in terms of value for money, offer the best bang for your buck. If a whole pig is too big for your event, a suckling pig makes a wonderful centrepiece.

We have two whole pig supplier options, both New Zealand suppliers with excellent quality pork. Fresh Pork provides conventionally farmed pigs and all farmers working with Freedom Farms raise their pigs to higher animal welfare standards. The suckling pigs come from Fresh Pork in a variety of sizes, see below.

As a guide, a 50kg pig feeds around 100 people and a 60kg pig feeds around 125 people.

As at February 2024, the whole pig (bone-in, head on) pricing is:

Fresh Pork

  • 50-55 kg $13.99/kg
  • 60-65 kg $13.99/kg

 

Freedom Farms

  • 60-70 kg $16.99/kg

 

As at February 2024, the suckling pig (bone-in, head on) pricing is:

  • 15-20 kg $28.99/kg
  • 20-25 kg $25.99/kg
  • 25-30 kg $23.99/kg
  • 30-35 kg $22.99/kg
