Hi, we hope you’re well and making the most of Wanaka’s winter wonderland. Plenty of walking with the dogs, etc going on for us. We like to share recipes on our Facebook page featuring the weekly specials, so we thought we’re share a couple of the most popular ideas for warming winter meals.
This six-hour braised lamb shoulder garnered plenty of ‘must make this’ comments recently.
We reckon this works perfectly to get this on, and while it’s cooking, to head out for a good long walk to build up your appetite.
It’s hard to go past a risotto some days, isn’t it? This sausage and mushroom risotto completely meets the ‘warming winter dinner’ brief!
The only fiddly bit is squeezing the sausage meat out of our delicious pork or beef sausages…
We’re delighted to welcome our new apprentice, Hayley, who has a fantastic attitude to her new job. She’s getting stuck in and learning all about the smallgoods processing side of the butchery business with Jeff. Over the next four years, she’ll undertake the course work for the Competenz Trade Butchery qualification to become a fully-qualified butcher.
We’re rapt to be able to offer another young person a job. If you’re wondering why a young woman, it’s simple – Hayley was the best applicant and we could see she would be a great member of our small team.
We are also very pleased to see how well our first apprentice, Ben, is doing with his trade qualifications.
In the shop, you’ll see that Ben is already a very capable and skilled butcher.
When it comes to breaking down homekill and hunted game, Ben draws on his own background as an experienced hunter to give Bruce a run for his money in both speed and accuracy!
Ben has been doing really well with his course work and is now two years through the four-year qualification.
We know it’s AGES until Father’s Day on 2 September, but how about giving the special man in your life a gift voucher from The Butcher’s Block and Smokehouse?
We can make vouchers out for any value you like, and they can be redeemed across a few weeks if the recipient prefers.
Something to keep in mind.
